Desert plants make up an exciting world formed by a multitude of different species. These plants are not only extremely resistant to high temperatures but many of them also resist very low temperatures reaching -25 ºC. These plants are perfectly adaptable to the different climates in Europe. For almost 20 years we have been producing and studying the adaptation of these species to the different climates according to their resistance to low temperatures, moisture, weather conditions, etc. We have developed our own selection of several of these species and obtained specimens with unique characteristics that turns them to optimal for adaptation in Europe. Our selection process of different desert plant varieties is reinforced by the creation of our own tissue culture laboratory. In our laboratory we focus on different selections of species such as Yucca, Dasylirion, Hesperaloe, agaves, Opuntias, Nolinas, aloes, etc. The tissue culture reproduction also allows propagation of endangered species in a respectful way with the environment and with the relevant documents CITES. That way we collaborate with the protection of the biodiversity.

Our intention is to introduce and promote the use of this type of plants in the gardens and gardening projects since its advantages are many:

  • Excellent adaptation to very diverse climates: from desert areas until Atlantic climates of low temperatures.
  • Very low level of maintenance.
  • Resistance to transport
  • Very low water requirements.
  • Respectful with bees and their flowers are a nice source of food for them.

In addition, many of those plants have very showy flowers in spring which makes them fabulous ornamental plants. Some of these plants can even maintain the flower along four and five months during the spring and summer.

Some of these succulent plants of low maintenance are very appreciated for its curative properties. What is certain is that the majority of these have been used and appreciated in the traditional medicine in their places of origin by way of its properties. Today, most of these varieties have not yet been studied and its potential is large for the obtaining of all kinds of beneficial products and substances. As lovers of desert plants, we invite everybody to take an interest in them and discover this world so beautiful and fascinating of infinite possibilities.
